Two glass jars with banana milk

Banana milk is a rich and creamy drink that has become my new favorite way to enjoy bananas. Just like my Strawberry and Peach Smoothie, this drink is cool and refreshing.

Banana milk was made popular by the Korean brand "Binggrae". There are no specific Korean ingredients but this is a known drink in South Korea. It is commonly found in convenient stores in the country and enjoyed by many.

This homemade banana milk is a healthy alternative made with just 5 ingredients and comes together quickly. It is also cheaper to make at home instead of buying store bought. I like to make this drink when I have a lot of bananas on hand. I know you are just going to love this drink on a hot summer day or anytime you have a craving for bananas.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE BANANA MILK

  • Healthy alternative: Free from additives and preservatives.
  • Amazing texture: Smooth and creamy.
  • Fully customizable: Add in your favorite protein powder or a scoop of chocolate to change up the flavor.
  • Great way to use up ripe bananas.

INGREDIENTS + NOTES

  • Bananas: Use slightly ripe bananas with brown spots for best to taste. Do not use bananas that are still green.
  • Milk: I highly recommend a dairy free milk like almond milk, oat milk or macadamia milk because it will not curdle. You can use a dairy milk but make sure to use it ice cold and consume right away to avoid curdling.
  • Maple syrup: The sweetener. You can also use cane sugar or honey but know the taste will vary.
  • Vanilla extract: Just a touch to give a hint of vanilla with the banana.
  • Water: Needed to help with consistency.

VARIATIONS

Here are a few variations and ways you can customize this tasty drink.

  • Protein boost: Add a scoop of your favorite vanilla or unflavored protein powder.
  • Extra chill version: Blend with a handful of ice cubes.
  • Nut butter twist: Put in a scoop of nut butter like peanut butter, almond butter or creamy cashew butter.
  • Strawberry banana milk: One of my favorite variations! Blend in a handful of fresh strawberries! Ah, so refreshing!
  • Chocolate banana milk: Use 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder to give it a chocolate taste.

EMILY'S TIPS

  • For best flavor and sweetness, use spotted ripe bananas. Don't use bananas that still have green coloring but you can use fully yellow bananas.
  • Don't use brown bananas. This will be an overly sweet drink.
  • Use a dairy free milk to avoid curdling. Almond, oat or macadamia nut are the ones I'd recommend. I don't recommend coconut due to the separation that can often happen.
  • If using dairy milk, consume immediately to avoid curdling.
  • Use a high powered blender for best smooth consistency.
  • This recipe turns out pretty smooth but if you want it even smoother, you can strain through a cheese cloth.
  • If you prefer a rich and thick consistency, use frozen banana slices or add ice.

I haven't tried it but you could add as the liquid when making pancakes or waffles. If you do try, leave a comment below and let me know if you liked it.

STORAGE

Store in a sealed jar with a lid or container for up to 2 days in the fridge. You will want to reblend or at least shake before consuming again to get the best flavor.

I do not suggest freezing as it's best to enjoy as soon as it's made.
