This healthy Big Mac sauce is the perfect topping on a homemade burger, taco or salad. No filler and all clean ingredients make this sauce a win-win in the kitchen.

As a kid I was a Big Mac fan. Who doesn’t love the sauce? Now as an adult who reads ingredient labels, I wanted a cleaner version to feed my family. Through a bit of trial and error, I think I have come up with the perfect copycat tasting version. My family enjoys having this on our Hamburger Cassarole and when we make our own homemade burgers. This sauce comes together very quick and most of the ingredients happen to already be pantry staples.

History on the “Special Sauce”

In 1968, the Big Mac was born. During the next few years, two versions of the special sauce were being used. By 1972, it was decided that one recipe would be used to avoid confusion. In 1991, the recipe was changed again. By 2004, it was changed back to the original formula that is used today.

Ingredients needed:

  • Mayo
  • Sweet pickle relish
  • Ketchup
  • White Vinegar
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Paprika
  • Salt

How to make

Combine and stir all ingredients together. Let sit in the refrigerator covered for at least an hour so the spices will blend together. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Why make at home?

I’m not a huge fan of soybean oil, high fructose corn syrup, propylene glycol alginate and hydrolyzed corn- all ingredients in the sauce. I wanted a basic version with all clean ingredients. Plus, it is so easy to make and the ingredients are all pantry staples.

What can I put the sauce on?

  • Hamburger Cassarole
  • Burger bowls
  • Salads
  • Tacos
  • Lettuce Wraps
  • Dip for fries

Storing Options

Store: This healthy Big Mac sauce can be stored in the refrigerator in a sealed jar for up to 2 weeks.

Freeze: Since this sauce is made with mayo, you really don’t want to freeze as this changes the texture, taste and consistency.
