WHY YOU'LL LOVE MAKING BBQ CHICKEN TACOS
- Big flavor: Garlic, butter, honey and BBQ makes these tacos so delicious.
- Easy weeknight meal: With minimal prep, you can have this ready in 20 minutes.
- Repurposeful: The chicken reheats nicely and can be served with rice or chips later.
- Customizable: Pile on your favorite toppings. We love sour cream and chopped red onions.
INGREDIENTS + SUBSTITUTIONS
- Avocado oil: Used to cook the chicken. You can use whatever oil you like.
- Butter: Gives the sauce body and adds to the richness of flavors.
- Chicken: I'm using chicken breasts that are boneless and skinless, diced up. Feel free to use chicken thighs or tenders.
- Salt and pepper: To taste.
- Onion powder: Adds savory depth and subtle sweetness without the texture of fresh onions.
- Garlic: Minced, adds sharp aromatic taste and an amazing garlicky kick to the sauce.
- Honey: Balances the tanginess with natural sweetness.
- BBQ sauce: Forms the base of the sauce. Don't forget to use a gluten free one.
- Apple cider vinegar: Gives a bright, tangy kick that balances the sweetness of the honey and bbq sauce.
- Tortillas: I recommend either corn based tortillas or the brand Sieta to keep them gluten free.

HOW TO MAKE GARLIC BUTTER HONEY BBQ CHICKEN TACOS
Step 1: Cook the diced chicken.

Step 2: Saute the garlic in butter. Add the honey, bbq sauce and apple cider vinegar.

Step 3: Add the chicken back in and turn the heat on low.

Step 4: Assemble onto warm tortillas and enjoy.

EMILY'S TIPS
- Use boneless, skinless chicken for best texture and results.
- Don't skip the garlic. It gives so much amazing flavor to the chicken.
- Balance the sweetness. If your bbq sauce is very sweet, reduce the amount of honey.
- Want more spice? Add a dash of red pepper flakes to the sauce before adding the chicken.
- Toast your tortillas (optional). While not necessary, a quick toast in a skillet will only enhance flavor and gives the perfect crunch.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Here are a few ways our family loves to enjoy these honey bbq chicken tacos:
- When wanting extra crunch this Mexican Street Corn Coleslaw hits the spot!
- Pickled onions are a personal favorite and the acidity cuts some of the sauces sweetness.
- Sprinkle with cheese. Cheddar or mozzarella work well.
- Top with sour cream (like pictured)! So good!
- Pair with Cilantro Lime Cauliflower Rice for low carb or this Slow Cooker Mexican Street Corn.

STORAGE
Refrigerate any leftover tacos in airtight containers for up to 2-3 days.
To reheat, heat over medium heat in a skillet until warmed.
RECIPE FAQ'S
Can I use chicken thighs instead of breasts?
Yes! Just make sure they are boneless and skinless.
Is this recipe spicy?
No! You can add some red pepper flakes, sprinkle some cayenne pepper or drizzle some hot sauce to elevate the spice flavor.
What is the best brand of gluten free bbq sauce to use?
My favorite to use is Stubbs Original Bar-B-Q sauce. It is bold, tangy and not too sweet.
