These double dark chocolate peanut butter truffles are going to be a hit this Valentine’s Day. They are gluten and dairy free but taste just as amazing if not better than store bought truffles. No fillers just good wholesome ingredients. With just 5 ingredients, these truffles are easy to make and can be whipped up on a Sunday afternoon. Package them up as a gift or enjoy a few to treat yourself.
Ingredients
- Dark Chocolate (chips or bar)
- Coconut Milk
- Peanut Butter
- Maple Syrup
- Cacao Powder
How to Make
In a saucepan on medium heat, whisk together the dark chocolate, maple syrup and coconut milk. You can use a dark chocolate bar or chocolate chips. I use EnjoyLife Dark Chocolate Morsels. The dark chocolate should be fully melted and combined with the coconut milk and maple syrup.
Then add in the peanut butter continuing to stir in as it blends with the other ingredients.
Turn off the heat and transfer mixture to a glass bowl.
Place in freezer for 30 minutes to thicken up. The texture should be like a batter.
Place a piece of parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Scoop out the mixture into 1 inch balls and place back in the freezer for 1 hour.
Take out and roll in cacao powder.

What I Love About This Recipe
- Texture- the truffle balls come out so creamy and taste delicious. The combination of the creamy chocolate, rich coconut milk and peanut butter make these truffles melt in your mouth.
- Healthy- you might be thinking chocolate isn’t healthy but dark chocolate is an antioxidant. The other ingredients are real food based ingredients. Alot of commercial chocolate truffles have additives and fillers that are not good for your body.
- Gift Ideas- yes, these truffles make perfect gifts for a friend or significant other. They are bite size goodness that will sure perk them up. Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas or birthdays- these truffles will be a hit for sure.

Substitutions
- Dark Chocolate- you can use a broken up chocolate bar or chocolate chip morsels to make. You can use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate. I think the dark gives it a richer flavor.
- Coconut Milk- you can use any type of milk- dairy or non-dairy is fine.
- Maple Syrup- honey works well.
- Peanut Butter- any nut butter of choice can be used. If trying to make paleo, use almond butter. Wanting to make nut free, use sunflower butter.
- Cacao Powder-there is no substitution here as this coats the truffles. You could omit, if desired.
What type of chocolate cacao powder do you use?
I really enjoy using Nativa’s Organic Cacao powder. This brand is fair trade certified and USDA organic. I know it is one of the trusted brands for not being contaminated with heavy metals.

Storing
Refrigerator- they can be stored in an airtight sealed container for up to 3 days. Note they will soften from having been in the freezer.
Freezer- store in an airtight sealed container or freezer safe bag for up to 3 months. To enjoy, take out and let unthaw on the counter for 15 minutes before consuming.
