This brownie batter dip is a must have when you are having a chocolate craving. It is also the perfect dessert to enjoy for a birthday, Valentine's Day or any event where you need chocolate!

The rich fudgy batter is created by just combining a boxed brownie mix, cream cheese and whipped topping. It is too die for. I love dipping gluten free graham crackers and even pretzels into it to get a nice mix of salty and sweet.

This recipe can easily be made gluten free by using a gluten free boxed brownie mix. I really like using the Simple Mills brand. You can also customize this recipe by adding in your favorite mix ins like sprinkles, chocolate chip chunks, M & M's or even peanut butter for a twist.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE MAKING BROWNIE BATTER DIP

  • Simple ingredients: You probably already have them on hand!
  • Versatile dessert: Pairs perfect with graham crackers, cookies, pretzels and fruit. Great sweet dessert to go with a salty companion.
  • Rich and creamy: Rich chocolate brownie flavor in every single bite along with creaminess that makes this dip so hard to put down.

INGREDIENTS + NOTES

  • Cream cheese: Use full fat for best texture. Soften to room temperature before use so that it incorporates well.
  • Brownie mix: Simple Mills is my favorite gluten free boxed brownie mix. Use your favorite. If not gluten free, can use regular brownie mix.
  • Whipped topping: Let it thaw before mixing so it isn't lumpy and it mixes well with other ingredients.
  • Mini chocolate chips: Another layer of chocolate goodness. Don't skip these!
  • Vanilla extract: Adds hints of vanilla flavoring throughout.

HEAT TREATING DIRECTIONS

A boxed brownie mix whether you are using a gluten free one or a regular gluten based one needs to be heat treated. This is due to avoiding any pathogens that could potentially be in raw flour. To kill off any unwanted bacteria you can place the mix in a bowl and microwave it on high for 90 seconds making sure to stir every 30 seconds. You can also place the brownie mix on a cookie sheet and heat for 5 minutes in a 350 degree F oven.

VARIATIONS

  • Dairy free: Use dairy free whipped topping (like pictured) and dairy free cream cheese. Also, check your chocolate chips to make sure they are dairy free.
  • Use homemade whipped cream: It should be stabilized but you can totally do it and the dip will still be great.
  • Add sprinkles: Depending on the event, add sprinkles to coincide with the themes colors. Ex: Valentine's Day = red sprinkles, St. Patty's Day = green sprinkles.
  • Add your favorite mix-ins: I'm a huge fan of M&M's, toffee bites or chunks of gluten free candies like peanut butter cups, Snicker's or Reese's pieces.
  • Add peanut butter: Add a tablespoon of peanut butter to give it that chocolate/peanut butter flavor.

EMILY'S TIPS

  • Use room temperature, softened cream cheese so that it will blend easiest.
  • Use thawed whipped topping.
  • We are just using the boxed brownie mix. Do not add the egg or oil as the box suggest.
  • Heat treat the flour. This ensures no risk of ingesting potentially contaminated flour. The heat from microwaving or heating in the oven will kill any pathogens.
  • Ball must be firm before applying the mini chocolate chips or the dip will smear. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours or until firm.
  • The dip is best served chilled!

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

  • Fruit: Strawberries, raspberries, apples, pears or banana slices.
  • Salty: Gluten free pretzels, gluten free crackers.
  • Cookies: Gluten free oreos, gluten free graham crackers (my favorite) or gluten free animal crackers.
  • Marshmallows: A bite size and fun pairing.

STORAGE

  • Refrigerate: If any exists should be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. The texture may change after 24 hours. Give a stir to blend together in case anything separated when ready to enjoy again.
  • Freeze: I don't recommend freezing. The texture will change drastically as well as the cream cheese breaking down.
